Wenqu is Fangtang’s scholarly lecture series, inviting scholars from China and abroad to develop perspectives on forward-looking questions across different traditions of knowledge. Technology often changes the world before language catches up with it; Wenqu attends to the questions that emerge in that interval, before they have been fully named.
Its first lecture approached AI ethics through the analogies of tools, animals, humans, and gods, considering rules, explainability, human agency, and AI narratives across cultures. The question is not only how technology should be used, but how people might understand responsibility, judgement, and their own place within a new order of intelligence.
