Fangtang Forum set out seven groups of fundamental questions for the age of AI. They do not presume answers; rather, they offer a shared framework for interdisciplinary discussion.

Technology, risk, and control

The questions begin with how AGI and ASI should be described and understood: will they emerge, and how should they be defined? They then ask what underlies fear of AI, whether people can control and guide it, and whether systems can be designed to recognize moral questions and signal risk.

Ethics and concepts

What does “AI ethics” address: AI itself, the people who develop and use it, or ethical relations between humans and machines? The Forum also considers whether existing conceptual resources are sufficient for concepts such as intelligence, consciousness, understanding, meaning, subjectivity, and autonomy.

Futures for people and society

The remaining questions turn to human flourishing, truth and knowledge, work and intimate relations, and AI’s effects on social structure, power, distribution, and political-economic order. From these questions, the Forum continues to examine how people understand themselves and shared life amid technological change.
