The inaugural Fangtang Forum assembled a reading list of books and screen works discussed at the event. From cybernetics and early science-fiction explorations of AI ethics to reflection on technology, society, and the humanities, it offers different paths into questions of technology ethics and human-machine relations.
Reading paths
The list includes Norbert Wiener’s The Human Use of Human Beings, Isaac Asimov’s “Robbie,” Stanislaw Lem’s One Human Minute, Kurt Vonnegut’s Player Piano, and the animated series Pantheon.
It also includes Miguel Nicolelis’s Beyond Boundaries: The New Neuroscience of Connecting Brains with Machines - and How It Will Change Our Lives, Tony Fry’s Defuturing: A New Design Philosophy, and David Graeber and David Wengrow’s The Dawn of Everything. These works extend the Forum’s discussion of technology and people through brain-computer interfaces, design philosophy, and social history.
